Guatemala City, Guatemala
I wake up at 5 a.m. today, and am so tired. I open the curtains and realize how beautiful the neighborhood is. A cluster of red-roofed houses and towers are backdropped by faraway mountains. The sun is so bright and the temperature is very cool compared to Belize. I put on the black pajama gown from the AC hotel and go sit on the balcony of the restaurant. It’s so beautiful and breezy.
After a 1-hour-and-15-minute drive, I arrive at Antigua, an ancient town with Spanish colonial architecture. The city reminds me of Quito in Ecuador, as there is a square with a fountain in the middle, surrounded by a church, a government building, and mountains. All the Spanish colony countries seem to have this same flavor, as I have seen it in Cusco and Bogota as well. This definitely has a lot more of a South American feel, whereas Belize was more Caribbean.
