I land in Lithuania by plane via Ukraine International Airline. This airline might sound impressive, but it’s actually a budget airline.
08.22 Vilnius, Lithuania – Chase the Ancient Times and Nature
Arrival at the Hill of 3 Crosses
Interesting Lithuanian Food
The Lithuanian lunch is the most interesting experience. I order a pink soup with beets, meat dumpling with bacon bits, zeppelins in crackling sauce, Lithuanian acorn coffee and a beer. Nothing is what I expected it to be: 1) The pink soup – I am expecting it to be hot rather than cold in such a cold weather. 2) Lithuanian Dumplings – Scattered with bacon bits and sour cream sauce on top, very thick pasta, very different from the dumplings in both Ukraine (soaked in a bowl of oil) and Poland (fried). In Lithuania, the dumplings are more similar to the Asian type. 3) Zeppelin – It’s not potato. It’s basically like Zongzi (sticky rice). 4) Acorn coffee – Despite the name, it’s not a coffee drink at all. You actually have to mix it with your regular coffee to get the caffeine you want. 5) Lithuanian beer – They put a slice of lemon in the beer. Interesting.
Despite all the surprises and the many bees that won’t stop circling around the pink soup, I still enjoy the experience.
