Fun Fact About Uruguay: Do You Know?
In most of the countries, if you pay by cash, you will get a discount. But in Uruguay it’s the other way around. Not until my last night in Uruguay did I realize that I can get 20% discounts on most of things if I pay by MasterCard. But if I pay cash, I don’t get any discount. Wow!
Meaning of “Montevideo”
Do you know how the name of the city come from?
The word “Montevideo” is divided into 3 parts in Spanish. “Monte” means mountain, “te” is 6, “video” is east. From the east of the country, the 6th hill is situated in Montevideo, so that’s how it is named.
Punta Del Este
I rush into the bus terminal to buy COT bus back to the city for 12:30pm. On my way to the terminal at 12:15pm, I run into Juliana again.
She sees me first and calls me out. She tells me she’s going back to Brazil today and book 1:30pm bus with COT.
“Oh, I am going to buy a ticket for 12:30pm now. Hopefully I can get a seat.” I say.
“You don’t plan your trip?” Julian asks me.
“No, I don’t. I just come and then figure out later.” I laugh.
I think most people are shocked that for a world traveler like me, I don’t plan anything. I have already transformed myself from a detailed planner (down to itinerary by hour), to now being a spontaneous free spirit. I think this change is driven by the change of my mentality: really living at the moment, fulfilling my curiosity about the world without googling things in advance, and my motto of YOLO (You only live once).
